Hurricane Sterling Destroys Tulsa

A romping. A runaway. Not even remotely close. All these words could easily be used to describe the way that the Oklahoma Sooners demolished the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes in Saturday afternoon’s game. At one point, the OU defense seemed to return a fumble 80+ yards for a touchdown only to get it taken off the scoreboard, and then Alex Ross took the ball another 80+ yards to get the 6 points back on the board the very next play.
Sooner wide receiver, Sterling Shepard, makes a man miss
after hauling in 1 of his 8 receptions on Saturday.
Trevor Knight played exceptionally well, and was just 1 yard shy off throwing for 300 yards. Knight also ran for 35 yards and a touchdown to add to his 88.9 quarterback rating. This is the second week in a row that Knight has played nearly a perfect game against lesser opponents, and no one is judging OU for vamping up the Sooner QB that only has 7 starts under his belt before SEC guest, Tennessee, comes into Norman this upcoming Saturday.
Other than Knight, the receiving core for OU had a stellar day, and was lead by Sterling Shepard. The young wide out hauled in 8 passes for 177 yards and 1 touchdown.  Along with Shepard, tight end, Blake Bell, caught his first touchdown of his Sooner career. The former QB acted like he had been there before, and performed his signature “Ring the Bell” celebration as he scored from 3 yards out.  Oklahoma fans will admit that it looked a little different seeing Bell on the receiving end of a pass that scored, but they won’t complain about putting points on the board.
As for the defense, they forced 4 turnovers (1 returned for a TD) and held Tulsa to just a 32% 3rd down conversion rate. They also held the Golden Hurricanes under 100 yards rushing, and Tulsa didn’t even get into scoring range more than twice! Mike Stoops and his defensive staff have done a wonderful job with this defense that has more talent than the Sooners have had on that side of the ball in several years. Have a performance like this last one against Tennessee on Saturday, and the nation will be singing the praises of Oklahoma football for what will seem like the billionth time.

Just something to think about as the Volunteers of ol’ rocky top Tennessee come to play in Norman at 7 PM CT, and look to give OU some competition for the first time in 3 weeks.
